English and Foreign Language Placement Policy
English Placement
All JMU students are required to complete GWRIT 103 or the equivalent.
Advanced Placement English:
If a student receives a score of 4 or 5 on either the English Language & Composition or English Literature & Composition AP exam, the student will receive credit for GWRIT 103.
International Baccalaureate English:
If a student receives a minimum score of 5 on the Higher-Level IB English A examination, the student will receive credit for GWRIT 103.
Dual Enrollment or Transfer Course Credit:
JMU awards credit for freshman writing courses taken at accredited institutions, when a student receives a final grade of 'C' or better in a course that matches the JMU writing course content.
