Why JMU?

When I visited the JMU website, I was fascinated by the beautiful campus and nature. Then the more I searched and knowing about JMU, the more I was interested in this school. At that time, I could already imagine walking on campus, taking classes, enjoying school activities at JMU. Also JMU has a high reputation for its business program, so I thought JMU would be the best place to spend my college life.

What's your favorite class?

My favorite class is interpersonal skills (COB202) class, which is one of the business classes. I really liked the professor since he shared his own experience when he was a businessman as an example of the class material. Therefore I could imagine how to apply what I learned in the class into real business life when I start to work.

Besides studying, how do you occupy your time?

I like going to UREC which is a gym owned by JMU. It has some activity classes such as yoga or dance, so I enjoy joining these classes and release my stress. Also I like cooking, so sometimes I cook my country’s food with my friends and have a good time while having a chat with them.

What clubs and activities are you involved with at JMU?

I am a marketing chair of International Student Association. We plan a lot of events and activities through the semester to spread diversity and each unique culture on campus and the community. We also host some charity events to donate the money to local refugee community. Also I participated in the LIFE program which I made host family in Harrisonburg and spent time together to learn what life in the US was like.

What do you like best about JMU?

JMU offers a lot of opportunities for students to get involved in the school and I really like it. If I want to workout, JMU has a really fancy gym that I can workout as much as I want. If I want to join some clubs, JMU has more than 300 clubs so I can find people have the same interests as me. JMU has several dining places that I can enjoy multiple cultures’ food. Therefore I have to be careful not to eat too much.

What advice do you have for other international students?

The one thing I wish I had known about JMU is that JMU is a really friendly and a safe place to live. Before going to JMU, I had never lived in the US and had anxiety about the safety of living here and how I could protect myself from people having guns. However Virginia State bans having a gun from campus and JMU pays attention to students’ safety, so I can feel safe and trust JMU security system. Also people in JMU are so nice and willing to help people if they need help or have questions.
