Why did you choose JMU?

I chose JMU because it was my top choice of college when I applied for colleges. I always wanted to come to school in Virginia because my father lived here before and he would tell me great things about the state. JMU is also close by Washington D.C. and I hope to work in D.C. after graduating from JMU. I didn’t have the chance to visit JMU before I came to school here, but from reading JMU’s academic goals, social life, and extracurricular activities on the website I knew it would be a great place for me to be.

What is your favorite class?

One of the best classes I have taken so far is general education theatre. The professor made the class interesting and fun. We watched videos on plays, wrote our own plays as a group project, and recited a 7-line monologue. Overall, the class was fun and the professor made it really easy.

Besides studying, how do you occupy your time?

I enjoy going out with friends on the weekends and living life to the fullest. When I am usually not busy with studying I like to play “FIFA” or other video games with my friends on the XBOX/PLAY-STATION. I don’t think JMU is a place where you’re not going to find anything to do either on campus or off-campus. There are so many opportunities here especially with student organizations, JMU has over hundreds of clubs that students can join.

What clubs/activities are you involved with at JMU?

I have mentioned that JMU offers enormous amount of opportunities on campus with student organizations. I am involved with at least four clubs on campus and I simply love being a part of them. I am on the JMU Men’s Soccer Club which is a student led organization that rosters almost fifty student athletes. The club travels to other schools such as Virginia Tech, Radford, Richmond, and University of Virginia for competitions during the season. I am also involved in the African Student Organization, the club hosts various cultural events throughout the year which we believe will enhance enlightenment and diversity to the JMU community. The shows include fashion shows and our main event of the year “Taste of Africa”.

What do you like best about JMU?

I like the fact that JMU is a community where it enhances a friendly, strong, and a helping atmosphere. Every single person on JMU campus is very friendly and people love to open doors for you, I just think it’s completely amazing. Also, because I live in a dormitory on campus it is very convenient for me to get to classes in the appropriate manner. However, my favorite part about JMU is attending sporting games: from watching JMU American Football matches to Basketball matches and finally going to watch JMU Men’s Soccer matches (the greatest sport in the world). Finally, I also like that JMU pride itself in dining services: we are ranked #4 in the country for the best campus food and I love this because I love food.

What advice would you give to international students who are considering studying at JMU?

JMU is one of the best places to be, it’s a community where we embrace diversity, where we embrace togetherness, and it’s a place where we are ranked #4 in the nation for best food on campus.  JMU is a place where you can be yourself, where you can step out of your comfort zone because it’s a community where we truly embrace differences.
