Why JMU?

I chose JMU because the campus looks really great! Most of the buildings on the quad are made of bluestone—a type of limestone—which gives the campus a classical look. JMU has a lot of facilities for the students to enjoy especially the renewed UREC (campus gym)—it is really huge! Plus, I want to go to a college where I can interact mostly with domestic students; I do not want to go far away just to meet people from my own country.

What's your favorite class?

I have to say that my favorite class is Calculus 3. I find math challenging and I do enjoy challenges. In my opinion, calculus 3 is basically derivatives and integrals in 3 dimension. Since we live in a 3 dimensional space, I can apply all the things I have learned from this class.

Besides studying, how do you occupy your time?

I am in a fraternity and we do a lot of brotherhood hangouts like bowling, having lunch with alumni and even road trips to other chapters. I enjoy spending time at the gym too. I play basketball quite often and I love to play games whenever I am done with my homework.

What clubs and activities are you involved with at JMU?

I am the current president of Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity Inc. A fraternity in general is an organization that serves a purpose for the community. My fraternity is an Asian-interest fraternity so we uphold Asian values and tradition. However, we do philanthropy that helps out the community around JMU. Our main philanthropy is the bone marrow drive.

What do you like best about JMU?

I would say the people. Even though I am an international student I do not have a problem with making conversations with the domestic students and professors here. You do not have to pretend to be somebody else, just be yourself and people around you will connect with you genuinely.

What is the one thing you wish you had known about JMU prior to arriving on campus?

I wish that I had known about the transportation here at JMU. JMU is not located in a huge city so buses do not come by very often. Even though that’s the case, buses that go to campus are reliable and there is also uber here so I wouldn’t worry so much about getting around.
