Why JMU?

When I started the process of applying to college, I was looking for a school that would provide me with the level of education I hoped for when I decided to leave home. James Madison University stood out to me as one of the best for Computer Science programs. I was also thinking about the environment of the school where I will be studying. After learning about Harrisonburg area, JMU beautiful campus, and the enormous resources available to students I knew that JMU was the right choice for me.

What's your favorite class?

LTLE 490: Augmented & Virtual Reality Design is by far my favorite class of all time. You get to not only have access to really expensive VR tools but will also learn how to develop a working game engine. The best thing about this class is that there is no need for coding experience to enroll in the class. The classroom is located at Lakeview hall and takes place in the JMU X-Labs. They offer free, non-credit courses, pop-up classes on incredible subjects like 3D printing, laser cutting, Drones, LED programming and much more. I highly recommend this class to anyone.

Besides studying, how do you occupy your time?

I love hiking with my dog! Especially since we have so many places to go hiking in Shenandoah Valley. I’m a big Manchester United fan so I won’t miss a game. I also like to go play soccer at University Field whenever possible. Since it can be a little bit difficult to find the same type of food we have back home I’m always trying to challenge myself to become a better cook. I also try to take advantage and go explore nearby cities whenever I have a chance.

What clubs and activities are you involved with at JMU?

I’m part of the ACM Competitive Programming Club where Computer Science major students get together to solve different problems as quick as possible. I also try to participate in Soccer and Volleyball intramurals whenever possible.

What do you like best about JMU?

My favorite thing about JMU is the amount of resources that are available to us students. JMU provides students with everything they need in order to succeed. On top of that, you are surrounded with the most welcoming and encouraging people. With more than 350 clubs available there is a place for each and everyone to fit in.

What is the one thing you wish you had known about JMU prior to arriving on campus?

I wish I had known about all the services that are provided by JMU to help students succeed and improve academically. Services such as, English Language Lerner Services, Communication Center, Science & Math Learning Center, University Writing Center and many more are great assets that can help students have the best experience here. Be always in the look out for JMU Information email as they always contain useful information.
