Description of the Major

The major is a part of the Department of Health Sciences, a program within the College of Health and Behavioral Studies.

The Health Services Administration program prepares students for entry-level administrative positions and administrative staff support roles in various health organizations such as hospitals, hospital systems, ambulatory clinics, physician practices, nursing homes and managed care organizations. Health services administration is a dynamic and rewarding profession that combines students' interest in health, business and serving others.

Through case studies and applied learning activities, faculty help students gain an understanding of key management functions and techniques used in health organizations, current issues confronting administrators, and the role of administrators in assuring organizational performance.

Declaring the Major

New Freshmen and Transfer Students
Students should declare the Health Services Administration major when they register for orientation.

Currently Enrolled Major Changers
Students should complete a "Change or Declaration of Major” form and obtain the signature of the department head in the Health and Human Services Building, room 3126.

Progressing in the Major

Health Services Administration Title are required to minor in business; however, no more than 30 hours may be taken in the College of Business.
