Recent religion graduate Adam Chutuape has been accepted to Tulane University Medical School and plans to begin his studies there in August.  Chutuape graduated from JMU with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy & Religion with a concentration in religion in December 2021. He was inspired to apply to medical school while working in the healthcare field and recently completed a post-baccalaureate program in science at Johns Hopkins University.

Chutuape said that his undergraduate studies in religion shaped his perspective on the field of medicine and distinguished him among other applicants to medical school. He thanked his religion faculty advisor Dr. Bob Brown for his continuous support and for his course on new religious movements, as the course helped him to "consider how radical spiritual movements and ideas coincide with notions of health and wellness that break with the established conventions."  While at JMU, Chutuape combined his philosophy and religion major with a minor in biology and an honors thesis on the religious orientation of Filipinos in America.  He said of his time at JMU, "I really treasure my education in religion and philosophy, and I'm confident it made me stand out in medical school applications, and that it will be foundational to my thinking going forward."  Congratulations, Adam!
