Even though we are only just under 2 weeks into the official Summer of 2021, JMU PCE Youth Programs is well on our way to a highly successful summer! With having already completed 4 week-long camps, we are offering a total of 17 over a 10-week period, that range from grades K-12 and consist of half day camps, to 7-day residential camps. In total, we will be serving over 420 students that span up and down the East Coast.

We are offering more scholarships than ever before through a partnership with CISE, funds awarded us through an IDEA grant, and Giving Day donations. In working with several community partners such as, 2nd Home, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, JMU Valley Scholars, the afterschool program at Covenant Presbyterian Church, and local schools, we helped to identify children in need and were able to offer them a spot in one of our various camps. In total, we awarded 37 scholarships totaling $10,945.

Over the month of June, PCE Youth Programs offered 4 separate camps- two JMU Arboretum Explorer Camps, as well as Robotics and 3D Print camps, sponsored by Breakthru LX. Upcoming for July, we will be running three weeks of Culinary Camp for middle and high school students, hosted by JMU Hart School of Hospitality, Sport and Recreation Management. There will also be three weeks of Science Explorers Camp- two week-long camps for elementary and middle schoolers as well as a week-long residential camp for high schoolers. We will also host our Summer Honors Institute in partnership with JMU Honors College, hosting 30 students from various parts of the US. They will live on campus as JMU honors students, taking classes from JMU’s top faculty. Lastly, College for Kids, one of our most well-known youth programs that is offered twice a year, will take place at the end of July, serving over 100 students in various thematic courses. We round out August with our 3 final camps of Renewable Energy Camp for middle schoolers, and two more Breakthru LX Robotics and 3D Print camps to complete the 2021 summer.

We are extremely thankful to offer and experience the joy of in-person camps once again. We look forward to seeing everyone in person this summer!
