Parking Regulations Beginning October 5

Upon the resumption of in-person instruction on October 5, students will be required to purchase and display parking permits to park on campus. Annual permits that were purchased prior to the temporary transition to online learning, and were not returned for a refund, remain valid. Students who did not purchase a permit, or returned their permit for a refund and need to purchase a new permit, may choose one of the following options:

  1. Parking permits valid for the seven-week period from October 5 through the conclusion of in-person instruction on November 20 will be available for full-time students to purchase online and print at home for a non-refundable fee of $70. The permits will grant parking privileges based on a student’s commuter or resident status. See additional details below.
  2. Semester commuter and resident parking permits valid through January 15, 2021 will be available to purchase online at the prorated October rate of $113.

Through Wednesday, October 7, students who have not yet purchased a permit may park in appropriate student lots without the need for a permit. All other parking regulations will remain in effect. Beginning October 8, all parking regulations will be enforced normally and students will be required to display a permit.

Instructions for Purchasing Seven-week Permits

To purchase a seven-week printable permit, go to the Parking Services website at jmu.edu/parking and click on “Purchase a Parking Permit” under the “Student Resources” tab. Log in with your e-ID and password, then follow the directions (be prepared to enter your vehicle license plate number when requested). Once you complete the purchase, you will be prompted to print the permit from a PDF file. Printable permits must be displayed on the vehicle dashboard whenever the vehicle is parked on campus.

Instructions for Purchasing Semester Permits

All semester parking permits purchased online through October 2 will be shipped automatically to your local address. To ensure that you receive your parking permit at the correct address, please verify that your local mailing address is correct prior to purchasing your permit by logging on to MyMadison and choosing the “Student Center” option under the Student tab. Be sure that the address is current and is a valid mailing address to avoid delays in receiving your parking permit.

Parking Permits Available for Freshman Students

For the remainder of the Fall 2020 semester only, Parking Services is making a limited number of permits available for purchase by freshman residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Freshmen will have the option to purchase a seven-week permit valid through November 20, or a semester permit valid through January 15, 2021 at the rates indicated above. Parking for freshmen with permits will be limited to R2 and R10 Lots on Port Republic Road (a campus parking map is available here). Additional information about freshmen parking is available here.
