SUMMARY: There are many resources on and off campus for graduate students to utilize. JMU’s University Recreation Center (UREC) offers services including equipment rentals, massage therapy, annual events, and fitness and nutrition classes to provide the space and resources that support students’ active interests and goals.
After a long day of sitting, there are benefits to taking some time for athletic and outdoor activities to destress and stay fit. The University Recreation Center (UREC) is JMU’s sports and wellness facility, available to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff. When you’re in need of outdoor equipment or an activity to do with friends, UREC has a variety of options.
UREC is another one of the university’s most-used features among graduate students. Equipped with a weight room, indoor track, indoor courts, indoor rock climbing, and pools, the recreation center offers many activities. UREC offers fitness classes, recreational events, and cooking and nutrition classes year-round. Complementing the indoor UREC is UPark, located near campus. UPark comprises outdoor fields, gardens, and picnic areas where students can enjoy outdoor activities.
In addition to the facility and park, UREC rents camping and sports equipment to students and offers a variety of sports clubs, group trips, swim lessons, certification courses, workout groups, and personal training. These courses and classes welcome all levels of experience, whether you’re an expert or a beginner its a great way to keep up your workout routine or try something new. UREC also hosts annual events for students, including the Color Run, Pack the Park, Battleship, and Nightmare at UREC.
They not only offer space for sports and activities but also provide wellness and relaxation through massage therapy services. Services such as deep tissue, hot stone, and custom massages are effective for relaxing and promoting blood flow. In addition to massages, students can use the sauna and hot tub to ease fatigue.
