Night at the opera
NewsAs a JMU student, I always try to take advantage of campus events to get the most from my experience here. Recently, I attending an opera, Turn of the Screw, at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts.
One of my friends is a student in the School of Music at JMU. She had a lead role in the opera and encouraged me and our friends to support her. We got our tickets, dressed up, and went to her performance.
I felt a unique vibe as I entered the building. The building interior was special and everyone was dressed up.
Throughout the performance everything went perfectly. The performers were wonderful. The set was beautiful. The musicians were great. I didn’t realize that both the music and the singing would be performed live. What a great surprise!
After a great performance, the singers, musicians and all the rest of the crew received a well-deserved standing ovation. And the icing on the cake was when I saw our friend’s eyes after the show, she was so happy to see her friends cheering for her.
It is great to give yourself a break from your routine every now and then and to do something different. For me, pausing to enjoy a beautiful artistic performance did the job perfectly!
