Faculty Call for Study Abroad Proposals

News

The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is committed to fostering faculty development opportunities with a global emphasis. As such, the CGE encourages faculty to submit proposals for study abroad (or study away) programs that inspire students through immersive, high-impact learning experiences.

You can develop new courses or enhance existing ones with global perspectives, build international partnerships, and pursue research or collaboration opportunities in your field. Whether you are experienced in international education or exploring it for the first time, support is available in every step of the way, from program development to budget and logistics. You’ll play a direct role in shaping transformative experiences that students carry with them long after the program ends.

Generally, programs run from three to eight weeks over the summer and offer three to nine credit hours. Study abroad programs are also offered during winter session (one to two weeks) and during spring break (as part of a regular on-campus spring semester course).

Applications for all upcoming terms – winter 2027, spring break 2027, and summer 2027 – are due by Saturday, August 1, 2026.

In further preparation for submitting a proposal, faculty should be in communication with their academic departments and colleges regarding their plans and curriculum. While official course approvals will be routed through academic units in the fall, it is important to discuss plans to propose a program with your academic unit's head prior to submitting a proposal to the CGE. Certain departments have summer deadlines for study abroad course approval, so check with your AUH sooner rather than later!

Please note: Prior to submitting a proposal, all NEW program directors must 1) attend in-person or review the virtual recording of the New Director Info Session and 2) schedule a 30-minute meeting with Angeline McMullin, the Associate Director of Study Abroad, to review program specifics. Both of those items must be completed prior to July 17. Program directors who do not complete both steps are not eligible to submit a program proposal for the upcoming cycle.

See the Short-Term Program Proposal page for instructions and links to begin the online process.
