Global Café: A Space to Connect, One Cup at a Time
News
Once a month around noon, something begins to take shape in the CGE Lounge. The pace slows. Coffee is poured. Conversations start. Students gather, not for a formal event, but for a moment to connect and experience something new together. This is Global Café.
Hosted by International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Global Café offers a simple but refreshing break in the day. It is a space where students can step away from their busy schedules, sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, and engage with others in a relaxed setting. There is no pressure, no structure to follow, just an open invitation to join, experience, and connect while stepping into the various café cultures around the world.
Each iteration takes students to a different part of the world. So far, Global Café has featured Vietnam and Colombia, giving students a glimpse into how café culture fits into everyday life. Students are exposed to coffee, teas, and snacks that are common to the café scene in each region, allowing them to try something new and step into another culture for just a moment.
What makes Global Café special is the atmosphere. It is easy, welcoming, and genuine. Students come in and become part of the space. Whether they stay for a few minutes or the entire session, they leave having experienced something unique.
The Global Café experience continues in April and May featuring Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Indonesia.
Global Café is a reminder that connection does not have to be complicated. Sometimes, all it takes is a cup of coffee, a shared space, and a willingness to engage.
