Fall 2021 Counseling Center Services

News

Our Center is here to provide support.

During Fall 2021, students will attend initial and ongoing appointments while physically present at the Counseling Center. Following federal, Virginia, and JMU guidelines and mandates, the Counseling Center will provide in-person support services whenever possible.

To first access our services, students should utilize weekday walk-in hours, 10 AM to 3 PM, Monday – Friday. After checking-in at our front desk, students will connect with a clinician in-person or from an in-center telehealth conferencing space.

If a student is unable to come to the Counseling Center (e.g. outside of Rockingham Co., quarantined, registered with the Office of Disability Services as being a student with a health condition that would make an in-person visit inaccessible or unsafe), the student should call (540-568-6552) to complete a phone consultation and receive recommendations for seeking support services. If a student is currently outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia, he/she/they should contact the Center for a consultation regarding referral recommendations.

JMU students experiencing a mental health emergency(e.g., thoughts or plans to kill yourself, thoughts of seriously harming others, recent sexual assault) can access crisis support services 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, by visiting and/or calling the Counseling Center. After regular business hours or on weekends, students should call the Counseling Center at 540-568-6552 and press “1” to connect to the after-hours crisis line.
