Okta Verify Coming to JMU Computers
Information Technology-ComputingIn an effort to streamline the authentication process, Information Technology will begin installing Okta Verify on November 19th on all JMU owned computers not located in a computing lab. Installation will happen in the background, and once completed, you will see Okta Verify listed as one of the computer’s installed applications.
After installation, you may choose to enroll your JMU computer as one of your devices that can receive an Okta Verify push when logging in to a JMU system. This will eliminate the need to reach for a smartphone to authenticate a login, and individuals without a smartphone will now be able to authenticate without the need for a Yubikey while using that computer.
To enroll the device in Okta, log in to mylogin.jmu.edu and authenticate using your current Okta Verify device.
- Click the MyLogin dropdown in the top-right corner
- Click My Settings
- Click Manage security methods
- In the Okta Verify section, click + Set up another
- Follow the prompts to enroll your machine
Information Technology strongly encourages you to have at least two (2) devices enrolled in Okta Verify, especially when using your JMU computer as one of the devices.
Note: enrolling a JMU computer in Okta Verify only enrolls that device specifically. You must have a second device if you ever log in using another machine!
