Update on Chosen Name project

Information Technology would like to share an update regarding progress on the Chosen Name project. This work allows faculty and staff to select a Chosen Name in MyMadison, which will display instead of your legal name in an increasing number of JMU systems. Your legal name will continue to be used whenever required by University Policy, State or Federal Law. There still remain several pieces of the project to complete, and we will work on them as time permits.

Follow these steps to enter a Chosen Name:

  • Go to the Employee tab in MyMadison.
  • Click Personal Information.
  • Select Chosen Name/Campus Directory.
  • Follow the steps on that page.

An employee's Chosen Name in the Human Resources system will be passed over to the Student Administration system on a regular basis for active faculty and advisors. This will allow a faculty member and/or advisor to display their Chosen Name in MyMadison. However, if a faculty/staff is also a student, then the student name in the SA system will prevail.
