2018-19 BTC Calendar: Kristen St. John

Being the Change

AUGUSTThe opportunity to mentor more than two dozen undergraduate students while also pursuing meaningful research makes JMU special to Kristen St. John, a professor of geology and environmental science. St. John’s research has rewritten the geologic history of Arctic ice, information that is critically important as scientists seek to understand contemporary dynamics of climate change. Kristen serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Geoscience Education, and, during the 2018-19 academic year, she will lead an international research team for an Arctic coring expedition. Kristen has secured more than $500,000 in external funding since arriving at JMU in 2003, earning her a lifetime achievement award from the Office of Research and Scholarship last fall.
