Bridge to JMU: A Seamless Pathway from Blue Ridge Community College to James Madison University
News
Bridge to JMU (BR2JMU) is a co-admission program between Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) and James Madison University (JMU) designed for motivated high school seniors seeking an affordable and supportive pathway to a four-year degree. Through this program, students begin their college journey at BRCC, earn an associate degree, and transition seamlessly to JMU without the need to submit a transfer application.
The program is built to help students develop academically, explore their interests, and gain confidence before entering a four-year university environment. From the start, participants are connected to a network of advisors, faculty, and peers dedicated to supporting their success.
Students begin their experience with a specialized BR2JMU orientation course, where they meet classmates, faculty, and advisors who will support them throughout the program. Before the fall semester, students attend a summer welcome event that fosters early connections and helps ease the transition into college life.
Throughout their time at BRCC, students participate in regular meetings with JMU Next advisors. These sessions focus on major exploration, career planning, academic progress, transfer preparation, and course selection. This ongoing guidance ensures students remain on track toward their academic goals while building a clear plan for their future.
During their final semester at BRCC, students attend a JMU Admissions Confirmation event and submit their official transcripts. Students who earn an associate degree and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed a smooth transition to JMU, arriving prepared and confident for the next stage of their educational journey.
BR2JMU is an ideal option for students who are ready for college but prefer a more personalized transition before committing fully to a four-year university experience. Whether motivated by affordability, smaller class sizes, increased academic support, or the desire for a gradual transition, students benefit from the resources and expertise of both institutions. With advisors from BRCC and JMU providing support every step of the way, students gain more than a transfer pathway; they become part of a community committed to helping them learn, grow, and thrive.
