SMAD Major Alexandra (Allie) Waller has received a Stickell Internship/Scholarship from the American Advertising Federation. She was nominated by professor Alexandra M. Vilela, who worked with her on the application. Only a handful of students are selected each year for a 10-week internship at a U.S. media organization, advertising agency or client/supplier company.

Allie is the first JMU student to be awarded this scholarship, which is a 10-week paid internship ($4,000.00 plus either a $1,500 scholarship to cover their travel and living expenses or a housing allowance provided by the host company).

The agency selection is based on her skills and the needs of the agencies. This is a nationwide award, where usually only students from universities with a strong advertising program win.

The following 11 students, nominated in 2014, have been placed in internship positions for this summer: Andrew Wood (University of Illinois, BBDO NY), Lauren Casarona (Ohio University, The Richards Group Dallas), Tara Kennedy (University of Texas at Austin, BSSP SF), Clare Lagattuta (University of Illinois, GSD&M, Austin), Olivia Hottle (University of Northern Iowa, Carat/Aegis NYC), Allie Waller (James Madison University, Slingshot, Dallas), Brad Imming (Penn State University, Leo Burnett Chicago), Natalie Sanford (Drury University, Urban Decay, LA), Samantha Villavicencio (Miami International University of Art & Design, Orcí, LA), Charlee Otterburg (Marietta College, San Antonio Express-News), Jillian Garzon (University of Scranton, IBM, NY).
