The JMU community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of Alger Hall on Friday, September 4. Dedicated to former JMU President Jonathan Alger, the new building is home to The Madison Center for Civic Engagement and a residence hall featuring the Civic Leadership Scholars Residential Learning Community.
The celebration will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m., followed by opportunities to explore the new space and celebrate its role in advancing civic engagement and leadership at JMU.
Fireside Chat: What Does Civic Leadership Look Like Today?
Before the grand opening, join a distinguished panel of educators and civic leaders for a timely conversation about the future of civic leadership. Jonathan Alger, Raj Vinnakota and Bobbie Laur will discuss the question: What does effective civic leadership look like in a society marked by division and declining trust — and how can universities prepare students to lead through it?
The fireside chat begins at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in Recital Hall at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts. The conversation will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
