JMU announces Kelly Ball as new AVP, director of admissions

SUMMARY: Kelly Ball brings her experience in student recruitment, marketing, communication and enrollment strategy to JMU.


Following a national search, Kelly Ball has been hired as associate vice president for access and enrollment and director of admissions at James Madison University 

Ball will begin her duties Aug. 11. She comes to JMU from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where she was director of recruitment and strategic initiatives since 2020. She has also held leadership positions at the University of Delaware and Penn State University.  

"Kelly brings exceptional experience in student recruitment, marketing, communication and enrollment strategy," said Melinda Wood, vice president for access and enrollment. "At Case Western Reserve University, she led the development of a robust admissions funnel and enhanced institutional visibility, work that directly aligns with the opportunities and challenges we face, especially as we navigate the enrollment cliff and increased competition."  

Ball said, "Communication, collaboration and teamwork are the core principles that guide me personally and professionally. I see a clear alignment of my experiences and values with that of the mission of James Madison University and the vision for the associate vice president for enrollment management and director of admissions. I look forward to engaging with the admissions staff, valuing their expertise and guiding them through strategic changes to achieve enrollment goals."  

Ball has two degrees from Penn State University, a Bachelor of Arts in advertising and a Master of Education in higher education.
