As the university prepares for the transition to its seventh president, the campus community has shown its gratitude for current President Charlie King.

During the April Board of Visitors meeting, the board rector shared remarks from a resolution that was passed by the university’s governing body. This resolution recognized the president for all he has done to support the institution during a time of change.

Student Government Association leadership also shared a heartwarming video and words of appreciation to King.

“Serving as interim president has been an honor, and these words of thanks are most meaningful to me,” said King. “I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our students and working closely with the board. I firmly believe JMU is positioned well to continue to achieve great things.”

Most recently, JMU’s Faculty Senate shared a resolution that was passed to recognize King’s leadership.

“We wanted to recognize and commend President King’s exceptional leadership and his work to create a collaborative and inclusive environment,” said Kathy Ott Walter, JMU Faculty Senate speaker.

King added, “My background is not founded in academics, and to be surprised with the resolution on behalf of our faculty members was touching and I’m very appreciative.”

King will continue as president until July 1, 2025.
