Message of Support to UVA and Our Community

JMU News

JMU students, faculty, staff and parents,

Our hearts go out to our friends and colleagues at the University of Virginia upon the tragic news of the shooting on Grounds last night. We ask that you keep the families and friends of those involved in your thoughts at this very difficult time and know that we stand ready to support the UVA community in any way we can.

The James Madison University campus is open and operating normally at this time. Additional law enforcement officers will be visible on and around campus as a precautionary measure. Any community safety updates will be shared through the JMU-DukeSafe app

As you process this difficult situation or work to help a friend or colleague, support is available for employees through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and for students through TimelyCare and the Counseling Center

While we continue to think of the UVA community, be sure to take care of yourself and one another at JMU. Our support and strength together will see us through these difficult moments.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Alger, President

Malika Carter-Hoyt, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer

Heather Coltman, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Donna Harper, Vice President for Access and Enrollment Management

Nick Langridge, Vice President for Advancement

Tim Miller, Vice President for Student Affairs

Towana Moore, Vice President for Administration and Finance
