JMU to offer free tax preparation service
JMU NewsHarrisonburg, Virginia – This tax season, James Madison University will be offering free tax return preparation service to local community members. The service is open to anyone with an annual household income of up to $65,000. Administered by College of Business students and faculty, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is in its sixth year helping taxpayers file returns and receive refunds.
Tax preparation services will be provided on a first come, first served basis on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Feb. 4 and running through April 8.
Services will be available in the lobby of Hartman Hall, 421 Bluestone Drive, Harrisonburg. Parking will be available in the lot across from Hartman Hall, P Lot.
Spanish language translators will be available every week. All individuals will be required to wear a mask at all times.
Taxpayers wishing to utilize the service should bring:
- A photo ID for taxpayer and spouse and social security or ITIN cards (photocopies are acceptable) for taxpayers and all dependents.
- A copy of last year’s tax return
- All forms W-2 and 1099
- Information for all deductions/credits including charitable contributions
- Account information (routing number and accounting number) for direct deposit of refund
