JMU recognizes December 2021 graduates

Harrisonburg, Va. -- James Madison University is pleased to celebrate December 2021 graduates this weekend.

The commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Atlantic Union Bank Center.  The event will also be livestreamed.

This year’s commencement speaker is Dr. Sheary Darcus Johnson (’70, ’74M), JMU’s first Black student and graduate. Darcus Johnson Hall is named in her honor.  

Eight hundred fifty-two students will be awarded undergraduate degrees, 130 will receive graduate degrees and 13 will receive doctoral degrees.   

The top three most popular undergraduate majors were nursing, health sciences and sports and recreation management. Physician assistant studies, occupational therapy and business administration and executive leadership were the top three graduate programs. 

The commencement ceremony is a ticketed event. All graduates and guests will be required to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status. Other general information on the December 2021 commencement is available at jmu.edu/commencement.
