June 2017 Board of Visitors Summary of Actions and Discussions
JMU NewsThe James Madison University Board of Visitors met Thursday and Friday, June 1-2, 2017, at the Boar’s Head Inn in Charlottesville, Va.
The Board of Visitors took the following actions:

Approved the minutes of the April 7, 2017, Board of Visitors meeting;

Approved a resolution to issue bonds to finance the construction of a residence hall;

Approved a resolution to update the university’s construction procurement delivery approval process;

Approved the 2017-2018 university budget presented by Mr. Charles King, senior vice president for Administration and Finance:

- Approved the purchase of real property located at 911 Forest Hills Road for $308,000.
- Elected board officers for the 2017-2018 term. Vanessa Evans-Grevious has been elected to serve as rector and Warren Coleman has been elected to serve as the board’s vice rector. Ms. Donna Harper, vice president for Access and Enrollment Management, will serve as secretary.
The Board of Visitors participated in the following discussions:
- Was led in a discussion about the future budget landscape by President Jonathan Alger and Mr. Charles King, senior vice president for Administration and Finance;
- Received a report on key institutional goals presented by Dr. Brian Charette, special assistant to the president;
- Received a branding and comprehensive campaign update presented by Dr. Nick Langridge, vice president for University Advancement, and Ms. Sheila Smith, associate vice president for Advancement Planning and Operations;
- Reviewed the university master plan led by Mr. Charles King, senior vice president for Administration and Finance;
- Met in closed session to discuss matters in accordance with §2.2-3711 of the Code of Virginia.
