James Madison University earned a place on the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction for commitment to service and civic engagement on campus and in the nation.

The annual honor roll "highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve," according to an announcement from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the body that administers the honor roll.

Other Virginia schools joining JMU on the honor roll with distinction are Virginia Commonwealth University, Washington and Lee University and Emory and Henry College. In addition, 19 Virginia schools were selected for the honor roll.

JMU has been on the honor roll since the list was established in 2006.
