JMU News

On Saturday, November 12, the JMU School of Engineering hosted 15 high school girls for a day filled with hands-on and minds-on activities, including a structural design challenge, a wind power design challenge, and a biomedical engineering experiment.  These young ladies are enrolled in Chantilly High School’s Girls Exploring Engineering Program, which is one of few programs nationwide to offer a girls-only high school course on engineering exploration.  The event was hosted by Drs. Pierrakos, Watson, and Kolvoord with the help of seven JMU School of Engineering female students (Kritika Vayur (’13), Christen Rhodes (’12), Leslie Bland (’12), Christina DiMarino (’12), Sara Bethel (’13), Emily Cummings (’13), and Paulina Hoang (’13) from the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) group
