James Madison University ranks 21st in Kiplinger's Personal Finance's 2010 list of the 100 Best Values in Public Colleges. The four-year schools on the annual list exemplify excellent academics while keeping costs to a minimum.

Schools on the personal finance magazine's list were ranked according to academic quality, including admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios and four- and six-year graduation rates, as well as on cost and financial aid. Schools making the list were selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities.

The university ranked 28th in Kiplinger's 2009 survey and 22nd in the 2008 report.

The annual public school rankings appear in Kiplinger's February 2010 issue, which goes on sale Jan. 5, and online at http://www.kiplinger.com/reports/best-college-values/
