EmpowHER is an event series that aims to provide resistance training programming designed for JMU women (students, faculty, and staff) and the opportunity to experience the weight room in a comfortable, educational, and open setting. The goal of EmpowHER is to provide relevant knowledge and tools needed to develop confidence in incorporating weight training into your own training plan.
Spring 2023 Program:
Our EmpowHER team is excited to take on the spring semester by offering a series of programs to teach you all about different exercises in the fitness world, implementing workouts at home, and how to reach individual fitness goals! These programs will include the use of resistance bands, kettlebells, dumbbells, Olympic lifting, and much more. This semester, we will be focusing on developing better lifting form to optimize resistance training effectiveness and safety, providing support for reaching individual fitness goals, and building workout programs that are the best fit for you.
The EmpowHER program will run weekly on Mondays, February 20th – May 1st (with the exception of March 13th - University closed). Sessions will be held from 5:30-6:30pm in Godwin Hall room 116 (subject to change).
We will also be hosting two large events that will be open to the JMU community:
- Talk to the Band: Working with Resistance Bands (February 20th)
- Raise the Bar: Learning Olympic Lifts (March 27th)
