EmpowHER is an event series that aims to provide resistance training programming designed for JMU women (students, faculty, and staff) and the opportunity to experience the weight room in a comfortable, educational, and open setting. The goal of EmpowHER is to provide relevant knowledge and tools needed to develop confidence in incorporating weight training into your own training plan.
Fall 2023 Program:
Our EmpowHER team is excited to take on the fall semester by offering a series of programs designed to teach you all about various exercises in the fitness world, how to implement workouts at home, and how to reach your individual fitness goals! These programs will include the use of resistance bands, kettlebells, dumbbells, Olympic lifting, and much more.
This semester, we will be focusing on developing better lifting form to optimize resistance training effectiveness and safety, providing support for reaching individual fitness goals and building a workout program that are the best fit for you.
The EmpowHER program will run weekly on Thursdays, September 21st – December 7th (with the exception of October 19th and November 23rd - University closed). Sessions will be held from 5:30-6:30pm in 116 Godwin Hall.
We will also be hosting three large events that will be open to the JMU community:
- Talk to the Band: Working with Resistance Bands (September 28th)
- Raise the Bar: Learning Olympic Lifts (November 9th)
- Dumbbells and Dinner: End of the Semester Celebration (December 7th)
