Breaking the silence and making their voices heard!
Take Back the Night is an evening dedicated to raising awareness of violence against women and sexual assault, while creating a supportive environment for expression and empowerment. The Women's Resource Center, in conjunction with the Take Back the Night Coalition, First Year Involvement, Office of Residence Life, The Office of Sexual Assault Prevention, and the University Health Center are co-sponsoring The Clothesline Project and Take Back the Night.
The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts made by those affected by violence against women. Members of the JMU and Harrisonburg communities have made all of the shirts. Anyone interested in making a shirt is welcome to by calling 568-3407. The collection of painted shirts continues to grow each year.
Take Back the Night continues the effort to end violence against women. Musical performances set the tone for speakers who bring their own personal insights about various forms of violence. A speak-out follows, which provides a supportive environment for those survivors and secondary survivors that choose to share their experiences. After the speak-out, the participants carry candles and march through campus breaking the silence and making their voices heard.
This is an experience you will never forget!
Come out and support this nationwide event. If you have questions, please call 568-3407 or stop by Warren 404 for more information.
