We believe it is through mainstream, multi-layered programming that socially meaningful thoughts can be delivered and received most effectively. In this spirit, we are proud to host a weekly viewing and discussion of one of television's newest genres of shows: cartoon satires. These shows include The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, and South Park. Although often labeled as immoral, simple-minded, and crude, under closer analysis it becomes apparent that these programs are among the most intelligent comedies and animations on the airwaves today. Our club does, indeed, provide an analysis of the thoughts portrayed in these shows, but our primary goal is to celebrate the art form, and the free thought it embodies and promotes. |
