Spring 2019

Internship
Qatar Business Council

Where are you from?  Why did you choose JMU?
I am from Woodbridge, VA. I chose JMU because of the accepting and friendly atmosphere I encountered when I came to tour the campus. Also, I was told about all the study-abroad programs and I just knew JMU was the school for me.

Why did you decide to participate in Washington Semester?
I chose to participate because I didn’t know if pursuing a career in political science was possible for me, or what it entailed. Prior to this program I knew for sure I wanted to do law and advocacy and I knew that exploring programs out of my comfort zone and specifically in DC would be a great opportunity for me.

What were the highlights of your internship?
The highlight of my internship experience was when I met the Qatari minister of finance at the US Chamber of commerce at a banquet hosted by the council and the embassy.

What were the highlights of your Washington experience as a whole?
The highlight of my overall experience was meeting goal-oriented people who are passionate about politics and international affairs with drive and determination to make their future aspirations a reality. It was a refreshing and inspiring atmosphere for me.

What advice would you offer to future Washington Semester students?
I advise that when you get your internship do not be afraid or hesitant to get to know the people you work with. It may be intimidating because they're probably your boss or in a higher ranking than you, but they're people too and they are more than just workers they can become great recommendations, mentors, or even friends.

What are your long-term career plans?
I plan to go to law school after I graduate to work towards a career as a lawyer.
