SUMMARY: When Arthur ('12) and Shonda Moats made their recent gift to JMU, it was no surprise the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker supported athletics; but he has another passion that he wants others to participate in.

To make it as a linebacker with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League, you need passion, grit and finesse. Arthur Moats ('12) exhibits all of these qualities in carrying on a Steel City gridiron tradition. But it's in the community where this former Dukes great separates himself. That's why when he and his wife, Shonda, made their recent gift to JMU, they went beyond athletics. The couple designated their gift to support the future Convocation Center, the football program, and one of Arthur's off-the-field pursuits—one he wants others to participate in.
