Verónica del Carmen Haun is a Lecturer of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures at James Madison University. A native of Nicaragua, she studied Law briefly and later earned a BA in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Universidad Americana in Managua. She moved to the United States and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where she earned her MA in Spanish Education and worked as an Instructor. She was also a faculty member at Trinidad State Junior College (Trinidad, Colorado) and worked for two school districts in Southern Colorado. She was an Assistant Professor at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she also served as Course Director, Character Coach, and Faculty Development Director for the Department of Foreign Languages and International Programs. In May 2012, she received the 2011-2012 United States Air Force Academy Department of Foreign Languages and International Programs Spotlight Award for excellence in course direction. Her teaching experience includes courses in Spanish language and culture, Foreign Area Studies (Latin America) and ESL. She enjoys incorporating character and leadership development in language learning, and designing or redesigning curriculum for purposeful instruction. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching a movie, traveling and doing sports activities, all with her family. She lives in Rockingham County since 2014.
