Academic Unit Head of the Department of Educational Foundations and Exceptionalities

Dani Allen-Bronaugh, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is the Academic Unit Head of the Department of Educational Foundations and Exceptionalities and Associate Professor of Special Education in the College of Education (https://www.jmu.edu/coe/people/all-people/bronaugh-dannette.shtml). She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Vermont and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Massachusetts General Institute of Health Professions. Dr. Allen-Bronaugh earned a Ph.D. in 2013 from George Mason University in Special Education with a concentration in law and policy. Dr. Bronaugh is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with a Certificate of Clinical Competence. Prior to teaching at JMU, Dr. Bronaugh worked as a speech and language pathologist in the PK-12 public school, providing services to students ages 2 through 14, and as an early childhood special education teacher working with preschool students with developmental delays. At JMU, Dr. Bronaugh has held various roles in pre-service preparation that include Graduate Program Director; oversight of Project SPEED, a VDOE traineeship grant; teacher education faculty; graduate faculty supervisor for speech and language students. Dr. Bronaugh co-leads a campus-wide interprofessional collaboration seminar for undergraduate and graduate students to examine learning experiences across professional disciplines, as a simulation to prepare for interdisciplinary work in school settings. Dr. Bronaugh has held leadership roles that include past president of the Virginia Council for Learning Disabilities (VCLD), member of the Rockingham County Public Schools Special Education Advisory Council, and chairperson of the Professional Liaison Committee for VCLD and Higher Education Representative to the State Special Education Advisory Council for VA. As a member of the Latinx community, Dr. Bronaugh is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion to strengthen the education profession.
