Persuasive Web Site

Assignment

This assignment requires you to create a persuasive web site about some issue that is important to you. Persuasive web sites convey credibility and may use both logical and emotional appeals. You will need to research the topic and use relevant fact, figures, expert testimony and/or layperson testimony to be effective. You may be trying to convince people to believe a certain way or even get them to change some aspect of their behavior. Information on the site should be accurate and any appeals should be ethically sound.
You get to determine the topic. It should be something that is important to you. It could even be a political/candidate site or fundraising site. It makes sense to include some links to other pages that support your position.
Upload your pages to the server space I provided for you in a folder called persuasive, (with your images in the corresponding images folder). If done properly, the site should be available at: http://streaming.smad.jmu.edu/smad339/lastname/persuasive. Do not upload source image files, such as .psd files. They will be available only on your USB pen drive.

Requirements

* Develop a "Home Page" and at least 4 local links. This means that you will have to create at least 5 HTML files on your own. In many cases you will be creating more than this. The amount is not limited in the assignment. The home page will be called index.html, but the other pages can use whatever names you'd like. (But, be sure to follow proper naming conventions).
* Meta tags: You will need to create proper keyword and description meta tags for your home page.
* (3) graphic images: Utilize at least 3 graphic images (in GIF and/or JPG format): You may need to scan material, and then enhance and improve the images using Photoshop. In other cases, you may be creating images from scratch. More than likely you will have a logo at the top of the home page. In most cases, you will be creating more than the 3 required images and there is no upper limit. You can download other graphics off the Internet and use them on your pages as long as they come from a graphics archive site which allows for the re-use of the images. In these cases, you are probably using some portion of an image, or several images, from which you can create a composite. Be careful about using "cheesy" clip-art images.
* ALT tags: Be sure to use proper ALT tags for your images.

Grading

The Persuasive Web Site accounts for 100 points (20%) of your final class grade. I will grade your site on content, usability and aesthetics. The content should be accurate and persuasive. Spelling and grammar count a great deal when trying to put forth a credible image in a persuasive campaign. The site should have a clear universal navigation system. There should be no errors in html coding. The site should have a consistent visual appearance and should adhere to the design principles gone over in class and in your readings.
