Personal Web Project

Assignment

     This assignment is to be done by hand-coding the HTML, using a simple text editing utility such as SimpleText (Mac) or Notepad (Windows). You ARE NOT to use any html editor or converter programs such as Dreaweaver, Composer or Front Page. These hand-coding skills will be necessary for the first test which will check your knowledge of HTML.
     Do your development work on your USB pen drive and place the contents in a folder called personal. I want all images to be placed in a sub-directory (or sub-folder) called images within the personal folder.
     Upload your pages to the server space I provided for you in a folder called personal, (with your images in the corresponding images folder). If done properly, the site should be available at: http://streaming.smad.jmu.edu/smad339/lastname/personal. Do not upload source image files, such as .psd files. They will be available only on your USB pen drive.

Requirements

      The project must include the following pages with the following file names and elements:
* Home Page (index.html):
    - Graphic Element for the top of the page that you create in Photoshop
    - Separate images for links to the other pages (You create from scratch)
* Biography Page (bio.html)
    - Write at least two paragraphs of information about your interests, family, hobbies, etc.
    - Include at least two photos of yourself, with captions
* Resume Page (resume.html)
    - Use tables to layout the page, with at least one colspan or rowspan tag.
* Links Page (links.html)
    - At least 8 (but no more than 15) external links, including:
    - a link to this class.
    - a link to your favorite search engine.
    - a link to several Web design or Web technology sites.
    - links to your favorite sites on the web.
    - (Incorporate an imagemap for some or all of these links. I don't care which ones.)

All pages should include a universal navigation system with links to all the other pages.

Grading

      The Personal Web Project accounts for 35 points (7%) of your final class grade. You will be graded based upon fulfilling the requirements above. Furthermore, each page will be critiqued on principles of design, aesthetics and composition. Content is important. Pay attention to spelling and grammar. Use the proper image file formats and make sure that images are optimized for web use.
