Good/Bad Design Critique Presentation and Paper

Assignment

Select two examples of poorly designed home pages and two examples of well designed home pages. You will give an in-class presentation on what makes these sites good or bad. You will also write a 4 - 6 page paper (double-spaced, no more than 12 point type, normal margins) critiquing the pages using the principles discussed in class, from the book and any other reading you do on web design. Please include the URL for each site, along with an appendix that includes a screen-shot of each site's home page. (The appendix does not count toward the minimum page requirement). The screen shots should be printed in color and should be legible enough to discern the principles you discuss.

You will give a 4 - 5 minutes presentation to the class where you show the pages and discuss the design princples you encountered. I want to hear WHY these pages are good or bad in specific design terms taken from the lecture and readings.

Grading

The Design Critique Presentation and Paper accounts for 40 points (8%) of your final class grade. This project has 2 parts and each part will contribute the following points to the total Design Critique grade.

Paper: 30 points
Presentation: 10 points
