You
will be graded on your ability to coordinate and direct a pre-prepared 5-minute
newscast in the Harrison Hall TV Studio. When it is your day to direct,
other members of the class will fill the other production positions for
your newscast. However, only the director will be graded. The newscast will
be done in a "live-on-tape" format. Your voice will be recorded on the tape,
along with the program audio.
You are also required to create
a studio diagram that sketches out the location of all sets, props
and cameras used in the production. A template for your studio diagram
can be downloaded here. Print it out, sketch
the required elements and then label each item. This completed sheet of
paper must be handed to the professor immediately preceding your production.
I will grade your directing
as to the following elements: We will be able to do either 5 or 6 newscasts a day. There should be enough time to check your opening camera shots, do position ready checks and run through the pre-show sequence, followed by the production. Check the appropriate page below for the schedule. The schedule tells you when it is your day to direct and precisely who will serve in what capacities for a given production.
