After submitting your JMU application, you will receive an email with a link to the Honors College application. You can also click the button below and log in using the same credentials you used on your JMU application.

Do not wait to receive your decision from JMU before submitting the Honors College application.

* The Honors College Application is valid for students who used both the JMU Online Application and the Coalition Application. 

There is no application fee for Honors.

Essay Questions

The Honors College Application includes six short answer essay questions. Your responses should be in your own words. Each response should be not more than 250 words.

  • Question #1: From your perspective, what are the characteristics of excellent leaders? Feel free to cite in your response a leader you particularly admire.
  • Question #2: Please describe a few of the most significant or impactful leadership, service, volunteer, or part-time job activities you've participated in over the past two years. Why were they meaningful to you?
  • Question #3: What aspects of the JMU Honors College seem most valuable to you and why?
  • Question #4: Why did you choose your prospective major, or why are you undecided/undeclared?
  • Question #5: If applicable, please list the names of AP, Dual Enrollment (DE), and/or IB courses you've already completed. Also, in a separate list, indicate any AP/DE/IB courses that are in progress.
  • Question #6: Tell us about any honors and/or awards that you have received in the last two years.
  • Optional: Please share any additional information not already provided in the application that you feel should be considered for admission to the Honors College.
Test Scores

Self-reporting of SAT and/or ACT scores is optional. Official test scores are not required to be sent to the Honors College office.
