The 33-credit hour Sport Leadership track is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in sport, athletic or recreation administration, sport or recreation leadership, or leadership in private, public, or non-profit agencies related to sport and/or recreation.

Students who complete the Sport Leadership requirements are prepared to work at all levels of sport leadership including athletic administration. Graduates of this Sport Leadership track may find employment in positions in areas such as high school and college coaches, athletic directors, professional and amateur sport associations, public, private, and non-profit agency administrators and youth sports programs. An internship is required in this program.

In addition to the required classes listed above, we will individualize their experience with:

  • A 3 or 6 credit hour Director approved internship (KIN 685);
  • Up to 9 credit hours of Director approved electives; or
  • KIN 700: Thesis. The thesis option is only available if:
               1) the student notifies the Director of his/her desire to take the thesis option during the FIRST semester in the 
                   SRL program
               2) the Director approves the request.

 Not all students will receive approval to take the Thesis option. For more specific information, please refer to the “Thesis Track” link on the main SRL web page.

SRL is a cohort program with entering students having the same schedule of classes except for possible electives. The schedule of classes is as follows, and students cannot deviate from the schedule unless the Director has pre-approved the change:

During the third and fourth semesters, students have flexibility in determining when/whether to take an Internship and when/which electives to take. Note that KIN 675 Legal Issues in Sport and Recreation is ALWAYS taught and taken in the fourth semester.
