Silvia D’Amato is currently Max Weber Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute. She holds a Ph.D. (cum laude) in Political Science from the Scuola Normale Superiore with a thesis on counterterrorism strategies in France and Italy. During her Ph.D. studies, Dr. D’Amato served as a visiting fellow at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and at the Fondation Pour la Recherche Stratégique (FRS) in Paris; in addition, she served as a teaching assistant at the University of Bologna. She has also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Florence (2017-2018) as part of the H2020 Project RESPOND. She received her M.A. in International and Diplomatic Science from the University of Bologna (cum laude) in 2013 and her B.A. in International Studies from the University of Florence (2010). Her research interests include international politics, European security and politics, and comparative counterterrorism strategies. She is the author of the book ‘Cultures of Counterterrorism: the French and Italian response to terrorism in the post 9/11’, Routledge.
