Dr. Gerber teaches and publishes on medieval literature, particularly the educational history, cultural exchanges, and manuscript traditions that helped shape Middle English literature. She is the author of Medieval Ovid: Frame Narrative and Political Allegory (2015) and is revising Narrating Science in Chaucer’s England, a book that examines how the fundaments of sciences and verbal arts contributed to each other’s development through ancient storytelling. She has also started working on two new book projects: the first about how medieval Christendom appropriated Islamic scholarship to convert astrological heresies into physical sciences; and the second explores shifting perceptions of North African cultures and intellectuals as concepts of whiteness began to form in medieval Europe.

Her articles have appeared in Studies in the Age of Chaucer, Florilegium, the Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies, and several edited collections. Her work has also been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the  Mellon Foundation, the Petra Kappert Fellowship at the University of Hamburg, and the Virginia Brown Fellowship.
