Grant funded project of the
VA Department of Education; one of six centers in the state. The
centers provide training and technical assistance in response to
local, regional, and state needs to increase the capacity of
service providers to meet the needs of children and youth with
disabilities. Services include consulting with school-based teams,
developing and conducting training, information services, lending
library, facilitating long-range planning, and referring &
linking resources together. Services are provided to public school
personnel and early intervention and state operated programs that
serve students with disabilities in VA Superintendents' Region
5.

The Virginia Center for
Health Outreach (VCHO) is developing an infrastructure to
strengthen the practice, policy, and research of the Community
Health Worker (CHW) field in Virginia. CHWs are trained laypersons
that serve as health resource persons in the communities where they
live and work. The Center works to acknowledge and help CHWs
capitalize upon the key roles they play in improving public health
through the provision of preventive services and facilitating
access to primary care.

Our Mission is to
facilitate and assist the planning, coordination, and
implementation of disaster intervention efforts throughout the
Commonwealth of Virginia, by serving as a resource for helpers. In
order to accomplish this mission, our goals are to
provide:
* Online information about
disasters and disaster intervention;
*Links to other disaster information sources on the web;
* A catalogue of disaster intervention information in print and
other media;
* Specific, practical and applicable tools for teachers, school
counselors, parents, clergy and helpers, for use in disaster
intervention efforts and after a disaster;
* Explanation of the roles of various federal, state, and private
organizations involved in disaster intervention, as well as means
of contacting them;
* Links to media resources on-line, for the latest word on
disasters, weather patterns, and relief efforts;
* Interactive sources of support and information for both children
and adults.
* Development of a clearinghouse to provide information to
Virginia mental health services
* A place for children to submit stories and pictures about their
experiences; co-creating parts of the web site

This is a 3 week summer
institute (2 sessions: June and July) during which participating
teachers learn data visualization software , then return to their
home institutions and conduct follow-up workshops. The data
visualization tools include image processing, geographic
information systems (GIS), molecular visualization and modeling.
This program serves 6-12 Math and Science teachers, as well as
individuals from higher education who conduct teacher
education.

The Workforce Improvement
Network (WIN) encourages and supports the development and expansion
of customized foundational basic skill instruction for Virginia's
workforce through:
* Research and development to support providers of foundational
skill instruction
* Programs to inform business, industry and government about the
impact of foundational skills on the productivity of the workforce
and to market appropriate educational services to them
* A network of affiliated and certified brokers or program
developers, coordinated by a program development specialist
* Training programs for practitioners conducted by a team of
workforce educators, coordinated by an instructional specialist
* Training programs for curriculum developers coordinated by a
curriculum specialist
