The Shenandoah Valley Child
Development Clinic is an evaluation clinic for children and
adolescents with developmental, health, emotional, and behavioral
problems. The clinic is supported by the Virginia Department of
Health and Department of Education.

This program is a Federal
Title I, part C program to provide supplemental educational
services to the children aged 3-21 of current and former migrant
farmworkers and highly mobile agricultural laborers. Services
offered are assistance enrolling in school, tutoring support and
Spanish/English interpretation for educational events.

The Shenandoah Valley
Partnership is committed to providing quality economic development
support services for its regional members, to prospects, existing
business and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.
Services include image development and enhancement, liaison with
state and national entities and businesses, and leadership of
economic development and quality of life strategies within the
region. SVP serves Augusta, Bath, Highland, Rockbridge and
Rockingham counties; and Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington,
Staunton, and Waynesboro cities, as well as regional businesses and
prospective businesses.

The Shenandoah Valley Small
Business Development Center (SV SBDC) strives to contribute to the
growth and economic development of Virginia by providing quality
counseling and training assistance to existing and potential small-
and medium-sized businesses in the Shenandoah Valley. The combined
centers (at JMU and Blue Ridge Community College) offer free
counseling services, assist with feasibility studies and business
planning, sponsor seminars and training events, and provide
information and other services to small and medium-sized
businesses.

The JMU
Speech-Language-Hearing Applied Laboratory, formerly referred to as
the JMU Speech and Hearing Center, provides communication
evaluation and treatment services to individuals with known or
suspected speech and/or hearing impairments. For over 25 years this
center has provided assistance to residents of the Shenandoah
Valley, including clients ranging in age from infants to senior
citizens. Hearing testing and aid advising is available for those
with concerns over hearing. Evaluation and treatment of
communication impairments, including speech, sound disorders,
language impairments, voice disorders, and stuttering problems are
additional services offered in the applied laboratory. Graduate
students supervised by faculty who are licensed audiologists or
speech-language pathologists serve as clinicians in this
lab.

Spring String Thing
The Spring String Thing is
a three day educational program for string players, age 12-18, held
on the JMU campus annually in the month of May. Students
participate in large ensembles, masterclasses, group lessons, and
planned social activities. The program culminates in a public
concert performance on the final day, presented by the students
attending the program.

The Summer Institute in
Counseling is a series of workshops offered by faculty in the
Counseling Psychology Program intended for graduate students and
counseling professionals. The workshop topics vary, from play
therapy to counselor supervision, and provide continuing education
units recognized by the National Board for Certified
Counselors.
