The James Madison Center
was founded in 1999 to honor the legacy of the nation's fourth
President and Father of the United States Constitution. The Center
serves as a repository for information on Madison's life and times
(1751-1836) as well as that of the Federalist Era. The Donald
Robertson Project, named for Madison's early tutor, celebrates the
vital role of educators in American society. Through a close
working relationship between the University and K-12 education, the
Center annually offers seminars, workshops, internships and other
professional opportunities for students, teachers, and members of
the community. The Center's online newsletter, Liberty &
Learning, is published regularly and contains current articles,
factual information, and primary source materials.

If you are 50+ James
Madison University is inviting you back to school. The invitation
comes through the JMU Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI). The
program, built on the Elderhostel model of learning, involves
college level courses taken on a noncredit basis. All that is
required for participating is a passion for learning, without
regard to a student's previous level of formal education. The
institute is a partnership between JMU and adults 50 + from the
region and is an affiliate of The Elderhostel Institute Network of
Boston, Massachusetts. The Aging and Family Studies Program
initiated Elderhostel at JMU and is the University's home for the
Lifelong Learning Institute. The institute is consistent with JMU's
public service and lifelong learning mission and with the goals of
the Aging and Family Studies Program.
