Acting Out Teen
Theater - a free semester long
program that focuses on issues that the teen participants currently
deal with in their lives. Teen Theater uses games, improvisation,
discussion and journaling to address current teen issues. The
program is open to any middle or high school student in the area.
At the end of each semester, participants stage and original
production based on their life experiences. JMU students serve as
trained staff for the 12 week program.
Acting
OutREACH - using a similar format
as that of the Teen Theater, Outreach goes into schools and
after-school programs and works with middle and high school
students to address current teen issues, including peer pressure,
substance use/abuse, family relationships, bullying and conflict
resolution. Focus is on accepting personal responsibility for one's
choices and actions. Sessions are free and last approximately one
hour.

Program matches older adults
and college students in a 1 to 1 program focused on health and
wellness. Emphasis is on building relationships and breaking down
age-related stereotypes. The free program meets 9 Saturdays per
semester from 9:30am - 12pm in Godwin Hall. Excellent way for new
immigrants to make friends and for long-term residents of
Harrisonburg to get to know more about JMU and students.
Audience: Adults 55 and older from the local community.

The Alvin V. Baird Attention
& Learning Disabilities Center is a multidisciplinary center
focused on training, research, and service with individuals with
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or learning
disabilities.
Applied Spatial Research
Center
The Applied Spatial Research
Center (ASRC) as James Madison University is a multidisciplinary
research and technical outreach facility. With the assistance of
the JMU faculty and students, the ASRC provides the Shenandoah
Valley community with a mechanism for addressing critical research
problems that require the integration of cartometrics, geographic
information systems, remote sensing, and mathematical modeling for
spatial data analysis and regional synthesis. Recent projects have
included classifying and mapping the watershed and landcover of the
Shenandoah Valley river basin for The Shenandoah Valley Water 2000
Forum, agricultural mapping in Rockingham and Augusta Counties for
the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, and work on
the National Park Services preliminary planning of the now-funded
Shenandoah National Battlefields Historic District (a new National
Park).

The Basic School Eastern
Consortia is a Network center hosted by James Madison University.
The Eastern Consortia assists schools in creating learning
communities of excellence based on Boyer's four priorities, as
described in his last and most persuasive report, The Basic School:
A Community for Learning. These integrative priorities
are:
the school as community,
a curriculum with coherence,
a climate for learning, and
a commitment to character.
They are research-based best
practices,brought together in one institution to create a school of
excellence. The Eastern Consortia offers support to schools through
on-site mentors, teaching clinics, a renowned Summer Institute that
attracts participants from across the nation and abroad, monthly
newsletters on new teaching materials, strategies and Network
events. Eastern Consortia member schools receive a Certificate of
Membership, discounted price for teaching clinics, monthly
newsletter, and member listing on the Consortia website.

BiotechnologyDatabase Center
The Biotechnology Database Center provides information resources
for education and industry. In collaboration with private
biotechnology companies and academic institutions, trams of ISAT
students identify information needs, research data, and develop
databases. The databases are integrated into a web site to provide
Internet access for anyone in need of this information. The
Database Center maintains a library of information resources, two
Dell 2300 server computers and seven computer
workstations

The Blue Ridge Area Health
Education Center (AHEC) focuses
on the health care needs of "vulnerable" populations. The
foundation of AHEC activities are partnerships with academic
and community based agencies that 1) develop, expand, or
support services to underserved and vulnerable populations
and, 2) link the resources of health and human service
professions programs with communities to address local
needs.
