Accessing Student Center
  • Log-in to MyMadison (mymadison.jmu.edu).
  • Click Student in the list on the left.
  • Click the Student Center link.

Apply to Graduate
  • In the Student Center, select Graduation from the "other academic" dropdown box.
  • Click Apply for Graduation.
  • Confirm program plan (major and minor) details.
    • Make adjustments by following the link. Wait until any pending changes are reflected in MyMadison before applying to graduate.

  • Specify your graduation term.
  • Provide an email address for post-graduation correspondence and click Continue.
  • Verify your name and address by checking the box and clicking Continue.
    • If you need to make changes to your preferred name (first or middle name only), go to Personal Information in the Student Center.
    • If you need to adjust your legal name, please contact hansenda@jmu.edu or bring official documentation of your full legal name to the Office of the Registrar in the Student Success Center, Suite 5300.
  • Verify your graduation data and either Edit or Submit your application.

View Graduation Status

Once you’ve applied to graduate, you can check your graduation status by following the steps below. When all academic requirements have been met, the graduation application will be forwarded to the appropriate Major and Minor departments. An “On Track” status in all requirements indicates that you are ready to graduate (pending successful completion of your currently enrolled-in courses.) For any area that is displayed as “Deficient”, use the Academic Requirements Report link for details and contact your advisor.

  • In the Student Center, select Graduation from the "other academic" dropdown box.
  • Click View Graduation Status.

Adjust Your Graduation Application (changing term or withdrawing)

After submitting your Graduation Application, you are able to change your graduation term or withdraw your application. Withdrawing your graduation application will allow you to reapply in the future. If you are going to graduate a semester later than originally planned or selected the wrong graduation term, then changing your term is appropriate.

Change Graduation Term

  • Click View Graduation Status.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the Graduation Status page.
  • Click Change Expected Graduation Term.
  • Select the updated Expected Graduation Term.
  • Click Submit Term Change.

Withdraw Graduation Application

You should cancel your graduation application if you will not be completing your degree as planned or if you need to adjust your Major/Minor. After withdrawing your application, you will be able to reapply in the future.

  • Click View Graduation Status.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the Graduation Status page.
  • Click Withdraw Graduation Application.
  • Check the box to confirm that a new application will be required for future graduation.
  • Click Withdraw My Graduation Application.

Additional Notes

On the Graduation Application page, you are also able to validate the name to be read at commencement as well as on your diploma (Validate Graduation Name), and complete a survey about your plans after graduation (Post Graduation Plans).

  • In the Student Center, select Graduation from the "other academic" dropdown box.
  • Select the appropriate link (Validate Graduation StatusValidate Graduation Name, Alumni Email Address, or Post Graduation Plans).
