All students admitted to JMU may declare a major in business and take lower-level business courses. To enroll in upper-level business courses, students must formally apply for acceptance to the College of Business. Students may submit an application for formal acceptance during the semester in which they are completing the lower-level BBA core courses.
Effective for all COB 300 Applicants Intending to Take COB 300 Fall 2011 or Later:
Requirements to continue pursuing a B.B.A. degree are described below.
Students are formally admitted into the College of Business as a B.B.A. major and permitted to register for COB 300 when the following requirements are met:
1. A completed application for admission into the College of Business is submitted to the COB ASC according to the following schedule:
October 1 for upcoming Spring semester1
March 1 for upcoming Summer session and Fall semesters1
2. All 10 lower-level B.B.A. core courses are successfully completed;
3. Students with a 2.7 B.B.A. core GPA are assured acceptance into the College of Business and COB 300. Students who meet all of the requirements but fail to achieve a 2.7 B.B.A. core GPA will be accepted to the College of Business and COB 300 based on B.B.A. core GPA ranking, and pending resources and space availability;
4. Acceptance is granted within one calendar year of the applicant's first application. Two applications, in consecutive semesters of enrollment, are permitted.
The B.B.A. core GPA is calculated using grades earned in the B.B.A. lower-level core excluding calculus (MATH 205 or MATH 235). Only grades earned at JMU will be used. The university policy for calculating repeat-credit and repeat-forgiveness will be followed.
*Requirements for acceptance into the College of Business are effective based on when a student intends to enroll in COB 300. Students are advised to consult the College of Business Academic Services Center for current requirements.
1New transfer students going directly into COB 300 are not held to the application deadline. Transfers are responsible for meeting the application deadline after they complete a semester at JMU.
Admission to the CoB permits you to enroll in COB 300 and be formally admitted to a major. Some CoB majors may impose standards that exceed those of the CoB. If this is the case, you must meet both the College of Business requirements and the requirements of the major in which you are interested.
The above requirements do not apply to students who are enrolled in the B.S. or B.A. degree program in economics or to those enrolled in the B.S. degree program in quantitative finance.
